Chapter 8 - Colliding Worlds

Michael spun around. "James. You just couldn't stay away, could you?"

"I told Raynor you were down here," James lied, stepping onto the catwalk. "The police are two minutes behind me. It's over, Michael. Drop the wrench."

Michael looked at James, then at Sarah, then down at the water swirling below them. The sharks, agitated by the loud noise and the vibration of the cracked glass, were swimming in rapid, aggressive circles.

"I don't think so," Michael said. He charged at James.

The two men collided on the narrow catwalk. James was taller, but Michael was fueled by sheer, psychotic desperation. They wrestled against the railing, fists flying, the metal structure groaning under their combined weight.

Sarah scrambled to her feet. "James! Be careful!"

Michael managed to get the upper hand, pinning James against a massive PVC water intake pipe. He raised the steel wrench, ready to bring it down on James's skull.

Without thinking, Sarah grabbed a heavy sack of fish feed from the pallet near the edge and hurled it at Michael's back. It hit him squarely between the shoulder blades. He dropped the wrench, stumbling sideways.

He slammed hard against the section of acrylic glass he had fractured earlier.

The sound was like a gunshot. The spiderweb cracks instantly multiplied. The structural integrity, compromised by the wrench and the immense pressure of three million gallons of water, finally failed.

With a deafening roar, a massive chunk of the glass blew outward.
