Chapter 7 - The Floodgates

"Sarah!" Michael roared, his voice echoing off the concrete walls. Footsteps clanged on the metal grating behind her. He was recovering fast.
Sarah ran blindly through the labyrinth of pipes and filtration vats. She needed to get back to the service elevator, back to her kids. But in her panic, she took a wrong turn. She burst through a set of double doors and found herself on the main feeding platform.
Below her was the primary exhibit—three million gallons of saltwater, swarming with reef sharks, tiger sharks, and giant stingrays. A thin metal railing was the only thing separating the catwalk from the dark water.
Michael burst through the doors behind her, wiping blood from his eye. He picked up a heavy steel maintenance wrench from a toolkit on the wall.
"It's going to be a tragic accident," Michael panted, stalking toward her. "The grieving bride, overcome with trauma from discovering her sister's body, takes her own life by jumping into the feeding tank. Tragic. The media will eat it up."
"My children will know you killed me!" Sarah backed up, her hands gripping the cold metal railing behind her.
"Your children will be raised by a very wealthy, very mournful stepfather," he sneered.
He swung the wrench. Sarah ducked. The heavy steel smashed into the reinforced glass rim of the tank above the water line. A loud, sharp CRACK echoed through the chamber. Spiderweb fractures shot across the thick acrylic panel.

Michael froze, staring at the glass.
Suddenly, the maintenance doors kicked open. James stood there, chest heaving, holding a police-issued flashlight. "Get away from her, you son of a bitch!"
