Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

The news footage showed dozens of federal agents seizing servers and carrying boxes of documents out of the Vale Corporation building.
Adrian simply smiled, looking completely unbothered by the sudden destruction of his public empire.
"I triggered that raid myself from my phone while we were on the boat," Adrian confessed to the shocked room.
He explained that he had purposely leaked the financial records linking Victoria Sterling to the corrupt politicians in the city.
The FBI would find evidence that completely exonerated Adrian's companies while simultaneously destroying the remnants of the Sterling syndicate forever.
Adrian had orchestrated his own legal salvation, deciding to permanently step away from the criminal underworld.
"I am legally retiring, and the legitimate construction business will be run entirely by a board of directors," Adrian announced proudly.
He looked over at Dante, throwing the keys to his remaining legitimate shipping empire to the loyal bodyguard.
"You earned the right to build something completely clean and legal, Dante," Adrian told him with genuine affection.
A profound sense of relief washed over me, knowing that Lily and I would finally be entirely safe from the violence.
Over the next few months, Adrian completely dissolved his mafia connections and retreated to a beautiful estate in the countryside.
He formally adopted Lily as his own niece, ensuring she would never have to worry about medical bills or poverty ever again.
I was promoted from a simple housekeeper to the chief estate manager, finally earning a salary that gave me total independence.
Adrian and I had grown incredibly close, sharing quiet evenings on the porch watching Lily play safely in the massive garden.
The nightmares of the hospital, the betrayal, and the freezing harbor slowly faded away into nothing more than bad memories.
We had built a beautiful, completely peaceful life out of the ashes of absolute chaos.
One sunny afternoon, I was preparing lunch in the kitchen when a courier dropped a small brown package on the front porch.
I brought it inside, setting it carelessly on the granite counter while I poured a glass of water.
Lily walked into the kitchen, holding her stuffed rabbit, and suddenly stopped dead in her tracks.
She stared intensely at the unmarked brown package, her small face draining entirely of color.
"Mama, that box smells exactly like Daddy," Lily whispered in absolute terror.
May you like
My blood ran completely cold, because Lily's father had supposedly died in a horrific car crash four years ago.
And a cell phone inside the brown package suddenly began to ring.
