Chapter 8 - The True Mastermind

Sarah locked the door again and pointed the weapon directly at my chest.
She looked absolutely stunning in a red evening gown, the silencer of the gun completely ruining the elegant aesthetic.
She confessed that she had spent five years orchestrating the slow, systematic draining of my corporate accounts.
She had used Arthur's greed and Elena's vulnerable family secrets to manipulate them both into doing the dirty work.
Sarah explained that she bailed me out of jail specifically so I would look like a fleeing, guilty fugitive.
She intended to kill me tonight and tell the police I died resisting arrest after going insane.
Arthur smiled and stepped forward, reaching out his hand to take the gun from her.
He told Sarah it was time to finish the job and split the offshore funds as they had agreed.
Sarah looked at Arthur with an expression of profound, absolute disgust.
She stated that a smart lawyer never splits a fortune when she can keep it all for herself.
Sarah turned the gun and shot Arthur squarely in the chest.
Arthur gasped, his eyes wide with shock as he collapsed backward over the glass coffee table.
Blood pooled onto the expensive white carpet as the corrupt CFO took his final, ragged breath.
Sarah casually stepped over his body and aimed the weapon back at my head.
She mocked my blind trust in the people around me, calling me a naive, pathetic fool.
She placed her finger on the trigger, preparing to end my life and steal my entire legacy.
