Chapter 8 - A Thieves' Alliance

Adrian looked wild, his designer shirt torn and stained with blood.
He demanded that Vance transfer half of the stolen funds to an untraceable crypto wallet immediately.
Vance scoffed, slowly stepping away from me while keeping his hands where Adrian could see them.
He told Adrian that pulling a trigger took a different kind of nerve than forging a marriage license.
I realized Adrian didn’t care about saving me; he just wanted his cut of the ultimate heist.
I spoke up quickly, telling Adrian that Vance had already locked the accounts and needed my biometric code.
Adrian’s eyes darted toward the laptop, his greed overriding his common sense.
In that brief moment of distraction, Vance lunged forward with his switchblade.
The two men crashed into the wooden table, sending the laptop clattering to the floor.
I used the chaos to twist my wrists against the sharp edge of a rusted pipe bracket.
The heavy zip-ties sliced into my skin, but the plastic finally snapped with a sharp crack.
I grabbed the heavy metal chair I had been tied to and smashed it over Vance’s back.
He collapsed with a groan, dropping the knife on the concrete floor.
Adrian scrambled for the gun, but I kicked it hard, sending it sliding into the dark corner of the shed.
I grabbed the laptop, clutching the only piece of evidence that proved their entire conspiracy.
I backed toward the open door, warning Adrian not to follow me if he wanted to live.
Adrian slowly stood up, holding his bleeding shoulder, and gave me a terrifying, bloody smile.

He pulled a small remote detonator from his pocket and pressed the red button.
A massive explosion rocked the shed, throwing me backward into the dark, churning ocean.
