Chapter 2 - The Will of the Matriarch

Eleanor Harrington’s death sent shockwaves through Wall Street, but inside the family estate, it was a silent, bloody war. Three days later, we sat in the mahogany-paneled library for the reading of the will.

Genevieve sat at the head of the long table, already acting as the queen. Beside her was my uncle, Arthur, a weak man who did whatever Genevieve told him.

The family lawyer, Mr. Sterling, broke the seal on the envelope. "To my daughter-in-law, Genevieve," he read, adjusting his glasses, "I leave the Harrington estate, the liquid assets in the Swiss accounts, and full majority control of Harrington Enterprises."

Genevieve smirked, crossing her legs. She had won.

"However," Sterling continued, his brow furrowing. "There is a codicil. 'All assets are transferred under the strict condition that the Harrington Genesis Trust remains untouched for thirty days. During this time, my grandson, Asher Harrington, is granted sole executive access to the Genesis Vault.'"

Genevieve slammed her hands on the table. "The Genesis Vault? That’s a myth! It doesn't exist!"

I stood up, adjusting my jacket. I didn't know what the Genesis Vault was, but I knew Eleanor had left me a weapon. "It seems my grandmother trusted me with her ghosts, Genevieve. I suggest you enjoy the house while you can."
