Chapter 5 - The Rendezvous

Gabriel read the text message over Harper's shoulder.
His jaw locked with lethal determination.
He pulled a heavy, matte-black pistol from a hidden drawer in his desk.
He smoothly racked the slide and chambered a round.
"You are going to stay here," Gabriel told her firmly.
"No!" Harper shouted, jumping up from the bed.
"He is my brother, and I am going with you."
Gabriel turned around and glared at her.
"This is not a negotiation," he warned.
Harper did not back down.
She walked over to his desk, opened the drawer, and pulled out his backup weapon.
She held the heavy gun awkwardly, but her eyes were filled with pure, blazing fire.
"I am not a victim anymore," she stated fiercely.
Gabriel stared at her for a long moment.
He saw the absolute desperation of a woman who had nothing left to lose.
A dangerous, respectful smirk crossed his lips.
"Keep the safety on until I tell you to shoot," he instructed.
They rushed downstairs and climbed into Gabriel's armored Mercedes.
Gabriel drove like a madman through the dark, empty streets of Boston.
The Seaport district was a graveyard of abandoned warehouses and rusted shipping containers.
Gabriel parked the car two blocks away from the target building.
"Stay close to my back," Gabriel whispered as they stepped out into the freezing rain.
They moved silently through the shadows of the massive, decaying shipyard.
They reached the rusted metal doors of Warehouse 42.
Gabriel kicked the heavy door open and stepped into the dimly lit cavern.
Standing in the center of the room was Mrs. Morrison.
She was holding a revolver, pointing it directly at Noah's chest.
"I knew you would come for the girl, Gabriel," the older woman laughed.
Noah was crying softly, his small face bruised from a struggle.
"Let the boy go, Morrison," Gabriel commanded, aiming his weapon directly at her head.
"Why betray me after ten years of loyalty?"
Mrs. Morrison sneered in disgust.
"Because the O'Connor family pays better than you do," she spat.
Harper's blood ran entirely cold.
Derek was not just a corrupt cop.
He was working for the Irish mob, Gabriel's absolute worst enemies.
Before Gabriel could pull his trigger, the massive warehouse lights violently switched off.

They were plunged into total, blinding darkness.
The deafening roar of automatic gunfire erupted from the catwalks above them.
