Chapter 8 - The Undercover Truth

The heavy vault door swung outward with a massive groan.
Four men in tactical gear stepped into the bunker, assault rifles raised.
Roman grabbed Nora and yanked her behind a thick concrete pillar just as bullets chewed up the floor.
"We need weapons, now," Roman shouted over the gunfire.
Nora looked around desperately.
She spotted a hidden panel near the floor that Silas had missed when clearing the armory.
It was an emergency stash box.
Nora rolled across the open floor, dodging a spray of bullets with trained precision.
She kicked the panel open, revealing two loaded handguns and a flashbang grenade.
She tossed one pistol to Roman and pulled the pin on the grenade.
"Close your eyes!" Nora yelled, hurling the explosive down the corridor.
A blinding white flash and a deafening boom knocked the mercenaries off their feet.
Roman stepped out from cover, firing three precise shots.
Three men dropped instantly.
Nora took out the fourth man with a flawless shot to his chest.
Roman lowered his weapon, staring at the maid who had just moved like a seasoned swat operator.
"I guess the police training pays off," Roman panted, wiping sweat from his forehead.
"I lied about my job, Roman, but I didn't lie about who I am," Nora said firmly.
She picked up Maisie, who was hiding bravely behind a metal desk.
"We have to get to the underground garage," Roman said, reloading his gun.
"My armored transport is parked there."
They moved carefully through the smoke-filled corridors, stepping over the fallen mercenaries.
They finally reached the expansive concrete garage.
A massive, military-grade SUV sat in the center, completely bulletproof.
Roman pressed his thumb against the biometric scanner on the driver's side door.
The vehicle beeped and unlocked.
"Get in the back with the child," Roman ordered.
Nora opened the heavy door and strapped Maisie into the seat.
Roman climbed into the driver's seat and pressed the push-to-start button.
The engine roared to life with massive power.

Suddenly, the steel shutters of the garage slammed down, locking them inside.
A familiar laugh echoed through the garage speakers.
