Chapter 6 - The Brother's Return

I stared in absolute shock at the heavily armed man holding my precious baby tightly in his arms.

Ethan's face was completely drained of all color, his eyes wide with a mixture of terror and profound confusion.

"Julian?" Ethan whispered, his voice cracking with the unbearable weight of an impossible reality.

"You have been legally dead for over seven years."

Julian laughed a cold, humorless laugh that echoed dangerously through the smoke-filled warehouse.

"Death is just a minor inconvenience when you have unlimited resources and a massive score to settle," Julian mocked smoothly.

He carefully cradled Leo, bouncing him gently to soothe the terrified toddler's loud cries.

"He has your exact eyes, Ethan, which is truly unfortunate for him," Julian noted with a cruel, twisting smile.

The remaining Romano soldiers were completely pinned down by Julian's elite, heavily armed mercenaries.

Salvatore Romano lay bleeding on the metal walkway, groaning in severe pain from his shattered ribs.

"Give me my son right now, Julian," Ethan demanded, stepping aggressively toward the metal staircase.

Dozens of laser sights instantly appeared directly on Ethan's chest, forcing him to freeze completely in place.

"I didn't swoop in here to save your pathetic life, little brother," Julian stated, his tone dropping to a venomous growl.

"I came here to take the one thing that you truly love, just like you did to me all those years ago."

My heart plummeted violently into my stomach as I realized this new savior was actually a terrifying new threat.

Ethan had always told me his older brother was a ruthless psychopath who had died in a violent car explosion.

"Elena's death was a tragic accident, Julian, and you know I tried desperately to save her!" Ethan pleaded fiercely.

Julian shook his head, his eyes burning with years of twisted, unadulterated hatred and misplaced grief.

"You locked her in that burning car to secure your own position as the head of the syndicate," Julian accused blindly.

"And now, you are going to watch me fly away with your precious heir, and you will never see him again."

Julian turned around and began walking swiftly toward the hovering tactical helicopter with Leo in his arms.

I screamed with pure, feral maternal instinct and sprinted completely recklessly toward the metal stairs.

I didn't care about the dozens of armed men or the blinding red laser sights tracking my every move.

I charged fiercely up the grated steps, grabbing a discarded heavy metal pipe from the industrial walkway.

Just as Julian reached the open door of the helicopter, I swung the heavy pipe with every ounce of my remaining strength directly at his knees.
