Chapter 3 - The Traitor Revealed

Marcus stepped slowly into the classroom, his expensive tactical boots crunching loudly on the fallen ceiling tiles.

He kept his assault rifle aimed directly at Ethan's chest with unwavering precision.

"I have to admit, Boss, I did not expect you to actually come to this pathetic little school," Marcus sneered.

Ethan slowly stood up, placing himself entirely between Marcus and me.

"You sold me out to the Romanos," Ethan stated, his voice dropping to a deadly, venomous growl.

"I am taking over the entire syndicate, Ethan, and the Romanos are heavily funding my glorious ascension," Marcus gloated.

I crouched frozen behind the overturned desk, clutching my trembling hands tightly over my mouth.

This was the exact monster who had intercepted all my desperate emails and stolen my trust fund.

"Why did you intercept her messages, Marcus?" Ethan demanded, keeping his eyes locked on his former friend.

"Because a mafia king with a secret peasant family is weak and easily manipulated," Marcus spat with sheer disgust.

"I needed you focused entirely on the empire, not playing house with a pathetic secretary."

Ethan's muscles tensed visibly beneath his tailored charcoal suit.

"You are a dead man, Marcus," Ethan promised with terrifying, absolute certainty.

Marcus laughed a harsh, grating sound that bounced violently off the classroom walls.

"I have forty heavily armed Romano soldiers swarming this building right now, Ethan."

"You are the one who is going to die today, right in front of your precious little girlfriend."

Marcus tightened his finger on the trigger, preparing to unleash a deadly hail of bullets.

I didn't think about the immense danger or the terrifying odds.

I simply reached out and grabbed a heavy glass beaker from the science table above me.

I hurled the glass beaker with every ounce of strength I had directly at Marcus's head.

The thick glass shattered violently against his temple, causing him to stumble backward in shock and pain.

His assault rifle fired wildly into the ceiling, raining plaster and dust down upon us.

Ethan lunged forward with terrifying speed, tackling his treacherous lieutenant fiercely to the ground.

The two massive men engaged in a brutal, bloody struggle for control of the lethal weapon.

Ethan delivered a devastating punch to Marcus's jaw, instantly knocking the traitor completely unconscious.

Ethan quickly grabbed the dropped assault rifle and pulled me roughly up from the floor.

"We need to get to your son right now," Ethan commanded, his eyes blazing with a fierce, paternal urgency.

My phone suddenly began vibrating violently in my blazer pocket.

I pulled it out with shaking hands and saw Mrs. Jenkins's name flashing brightly on the screen.
