Chapter 3 - The Black Onyx

The mansion instantly erupted into controlled chaos as armed guards flooded the hallways.

Elias did not flinch at the news of the explosion.

He kept his dark eyes locked on Maeve.

"The Ashfords are trying to erase their debt to me by starting a war," Elias stated calmly.

He pushed a gold pen across the glass table toward Maeve.

"Sign the contract, and you belong to me," Elias demanded.

Maeve's hands shook violently as she picked up the heavy pen.

"If I sign this, will you pay for my brother's heart surgery?" Maeve asked bravely.

Elias paused, clearly surprised that she was asking for someone else's life instead of her own safety.

"I will ensure the boy has the best surgeons in the world by tomorrow morning," Elias promised.

Maeve did not read the terms of the mafia contract.

She quickly signed her real name, Maeve Donnelly, at the bottom of the page.

Elias took the paper and handed it to Salvatore.

"Take my new bride to the west wing and lock the door," Elias ordered.

Salvatore grabbed Maeve by the arm and dragged her up the grand staircase.

She was shoved into a beautiful, sprawling bedroom that looked like a gilded cage.

Maeve paced the floor for hours, listening to the muffled sounds of shouting and sirens outside.

She knew Margaret Ashford would eventually realize her plan had failed.

Around midnight, the heavy bedroom door slowly opened.

Gabriel Ferraro stepped into the room with a small, flashing device in his hand.

He looked at Maeve with absolute disgust.

"We found this GPS tracker sewn into the lining of your designer coat," Gabriel growled.

Maeve backed away, realizing Margaret had turned her into a walking target.

"I did not know it was there," Maeve cried desperately.

Gabriel pulled a silencer from his pocket and attached it to his pistol.

"Mr. Marchetti does not tolerate spies in his house," Gabriel said as he aimed the gun at her chest.
