Chapter 9 - The Sacrifice

Matteo dragged my crying daughter violently down the rusted emergency stairs toward the lower concrete landing pad.
A private getaway helicopter was already spinning its incredibly loud rotors on the concrete dock, preparing for immediate takeoff.
I sprinted aggressively past the heavily armed federal agents, completely ignoring their loud orders to completely halt.
Alina ran right beside me, absolutely refusing to lose sight of our precious child for even a single second.
We reached the lower landing pad just as Matteo violently shoved Sophia toward the open door of the roaring helicopter.
I screamed his name with a totally primal fury, aggressively drawing a backup pistol from my hidden ankle holster.
Matteo rapidly spun around, using Sophia's small body perfectly as a human shield against my direct aim.
He confidently knew I would absolutely never take a risky shot that endangered my beloved daughter.
He smiled his sickening, twisted smile and aimed his heavy weapon directly at Alina's unprotected chest.
He spitefully decided to brutally murder my beautiful wife right in front of my totally helpless eyes.
I absolutely did not have time to think, negotiate, or formulate a brilliant tactical plan to safely save everyone.
I completely dropped my weapon onto the concrete and sprinted directly into his completely open line of fire.
Alina incredibly realized my suicidal intention and desperately tried to create a powerful, immediate distraction.
She violently threw her heavy diamond wedding ring directly at Matteo's face with all her remaining frantic strength.
The sparkling diamond perfectly caught the bright helicopter lights, causing Matteo to flinch violently for one crucial second.
That tiny fraction of a second was all I desperately needed to entirely close the massive distance between us.
I violently lunged forward, throwing my entire body weight directly against Matteo's chest to push him completely away from Sophia.
I successfully tackled him completely out of the open door of the loudly roaring helicopter.
As we fell forcefully onto the incredibly hard concrete, Matteo aggressively pulled the trigger of his heavy weapon.
A loud, deeply deafening shot rang out clearly over the incredibly loud noise of the spinning helicopter rotors.
Sophia screamed loudly as she fell safely onto the secure floor of the grounded aircraft, completely unharmed.
I hit the concrete floor incredibly hard, the violent impact knocking the air entirely out of my lungs.
A warm, sickeningly thick liquid rapidly began to spread across the front of my expensive white shirt.

I looked down in pure shock and saw a massive amount of dark blood aggressively pouring from a wound in my chest.
Alina screamed my name in pure, unfiltered agony as my vision slowly faded completely to black.
