Chapter 4 - The Captive

I could not tear my eyes away from the glowing security monitor.

Alina was alive, walking gracefully through the courtyard of a heavily fortified compound.

She looked significantly older, incredibly tired, but undeniably breathing and moving on her own.

A raging fire of pure anger and overwhelming relief violently ignited inside my chest.

Matteo had lied to me for six miserable years while secretly keeping my wife locked away.

I turned to Nico and ordered him to gather every single loyal man we had left.

Nico warned me that we did not know who in the organization was actually loyal anymore.

I told him to only call the men who had bled for me before Matteo even joined the family.

I went into the bunker's armory and loaded myself with enough weaponry to take down a small army.

I walked into the bedroom and kissed my sleeping daughter softly on her warm forehead.

I locked the bunker down completely, leaving Nico to guard Sophia securely with his life.

I drove alone through the freezing night toward the Wisconsin border, my mind entirely consumed by vengeance.

The private estate was hidden deep inside a dense, unforgiving pine forest.

I parked my vehicle two miles away and approached the compound completely on foot through the snow.

I easily bypassed the external motion sensors, using security codes I had personally designed years ago.

I silently eliminated two perimeter guards using suppressed shots from my tactical pistol.

I slipped inside the massive stone mansion through a rusted cellar door entirely undetected.

The interior was completely silent, decorated with expensive art paid for by my own stolen money.

I crept up the grand staircase, systematically clearing every single room with ruthless efficiency.

I finally reached a heavily reinforced steel door at the very end of the third-floor hallway.

I blew the electronic lock off the heavy frame with a localized breaching charge.

I kicked the heavy door open and rushed violently into the dark, luxurious prison suite.

Alina was standing near the large window, illuminated perfectly by the pale moonlight.

I dropped my weapon completely, tears of pure joy flooding my tired eyes.

I took a slow step forward, whispering her beautiful name into the quiet room.

She did not run into my open arms to embrace me warmly.

Instead, she quickly reached under her pillow and pulled out a heavy silver revolver.

She pointed the deadly weapon directly at the absolute center of my chest.

May you like

Her hands were shaking, but her green eyes were filled with pure, unadulterated hatred.

"You finally came to finish the job you started six years ago, Marco," she whispered coldly with her finger on the trigger.
