Chapter 9 - The House of Cards

The metal barrel of the shotgun gleamed in the red emergency light.
Richard Harrington looked like a completely unhinged madman.
His carefully crafted facade of a respectable billionaire had entirely vanished.
He demanded that Elara cancel the data upload immediately.
He threatened to blow Thomas away if she hesitated for a single second.
Elara looked down at the tablet in her trembling hands.
The progress bar was currently sitting at ninety percent.
She needed ten more seconds to expose this monster to the entire world.
Thomas looked at Elara calmly and gave her a very slight nod.
He was willing to sacrifice his own life to end the Harrington reign of terror.
Elara gripped the tablet tightly and refused to press the cancel button.
Richard roared in anger and placed his finger on the heavy trigger.
Before he could fire a heavy silver tray smashed violently into the back of his head.
Richard stumbled forward and the shotgun blasted a hole into the ceiling.
Plaster and dust rained down on them in the cramped linen closet.
Victoria stood behind him breathing heavily with a dented tray in her hands.
She kicked the shotgun away as Richard collapsed onto the floor groaning in pain.
Elara looked at the tablet as the progress bar finally hit one hundred percent.
The screen flashed bright green with a message confirming the successful transfer.
Every major news network now had undeniable proof of Richard's crimes.
The dark legacy of the Harrington empire was finally over.
Sirens wailed in the distance but this time they were not bought by Richard.
Federal agents had received the files and were swarming the estate gates.
Victoria slumped against the wall and let out a long shaky breath.
She looked at Elara and smiled for the first time without malice.
She said they actually made a pretty good team.
Thomas checked Richard's pulse and confirmed he was unconscious but alive.
The old butler praised both of the girls for their incredible bravery.
Federal agents burst into the hallway with their weapons drawn.
They demanded everyone put their hands in the air immediately.
May you like
Elara dropped the tablet and raised her hands feeling lighter than ever before.
She was no longer an invisible ghost haunting a mansion.
