Chapter 2 - The Dark Water

Elena screamed in absolute horror as the federal agents locked the heavy cuffs onto Julian's wrists.

Julian did not fight back, but his eyes were wide with pure, unfiltered terror.

Victoria stood completely frozen for a second before a wicked, knowing smile slowly returned to her face.

She calmly smoothed down her black lace gown and looked directly into Elena's terrified eyes.

Victoria whispered that she had always anticipated someone might try to access her offshore vault.

She casually revealed that she had forged official corporate documents years ago.

Those hidden documents legally named Julian as the sole director of all her illegal shell companies.

If the financial police ever found the digital ledger, Julian would take the entire fall.

Victoria leaned in close to Elena, her breath smelling of expensive champagne and pure malice.

She offered the desperate bride a cruel, agonizing ultimatum right there in the ballroom.

If Elena could somehow retrieve the discarded ring from the river, Victoria would provide the evidence to clear his name.

If not, Julian would spend the rest of his natural life rotting in a maximum-security federal prison.

Elena looked at the armed guards dragging the love of her life out the front doors.

She did not hesitate for a single fraction of a second.

Elena hiked up her heavy, intricately embroidered lace wedding dress.

She sprinted desperately across the marble floor toward the open balcony doors.

The cold night air hit her face as she launched herself over the intricate stone railing.

She plummeted through the dark abyss, hitting the freezing, churning river water with a violent impact.

The heavy fabric of her dress instantly filled with water, dragging her deep down into the crushing darkness.

Her lungs burned for oxygen as she desperately clawed her way toward the faint moonlight above.

She felt her consciousness fading rapidly as the freezing current pulled her further under.

Suddenly, a strong, gloved hand tightly grabbed a fistful of her ruined wedding dress.
