Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Jax looked at me with cold, dead eyes as he kept his pistol pressed firmly against my tactical vest.

He whispered a pathetic apology, claiming General Vance had threatened to murder his entire family if he didn't cooperate.

The corrupt federal agents swarmed our position, violently stripping me of my weapons and forcing me to my knees.

Emily screamed and tried to fight them, but Brandon stepped out of the shadows and roughly grabbed her by the hair.

General Vance walked slowly down the dock, his crisp uniform a disgusting mockery of the military oath we both took.

Margaret and Ethan emerged from the luxury yacht, looking immensely pleased with their impending victory.

Margaret strutted over to me and viciously slapped me across the face with her diamond-ringed hand.

She mocked my military rank and proudly declared that in the real world, money always outranks medals.

Ethan snatched the encrypted hard drive from my pocket and handed it directly to General Vance.

Vance smiled greedily and crushed the device beneath the heavy heel of his polished combat boot.

He proudly announced that all the evidence of their treason was now permanently destroyed.

Brandon dragged a crying Emily toward the edge of the dark, freezing water.

He laughed cruelly and stated that she was going to have a tragic, fatal drowning accident tonight.

Vance aimed his service pistol directly at my forehead, preparing to carry out my official execution.

I looked up at the corrupt General and let a dark, genuinely terrifying smile spread across my bloody face.

I asked him if he honestly believed a seasoned combat Colonel would bring the only copy of the evidence to a gunfight.

Vance hesitated, his arrogant smile faltering slightly as a seed of genuine doubt entered his mind.

I calmly revealed that my biometric heartbeat monitor was directly linked to a dead-man's switch on a hidden server.

I explained that if my heart stopped beating, or if I didn't enter a secure code every hour, the server would execute a massive data dump.

I checked my watch and informed them that the hourly timer had just officially expired.

Every single cell phone on the dock suddenly began to chime in unison with breaking news alerts.
