Chapter 7 - The Devil's Bargain

Daniel stepped casually over the ruined barricade, utterly ignoring the thick smoke filling the small clinic.

His greedy eyes instantly locked onto the crying newborn baby resting safely on Clara's chest.

"He is absolutely beautiful," Daniel said softly, the pure malice in his voice deeply contradicting his gentle words.

He pointed a heavy pistol directly at Marcus, completely disarming his brother before he could react.

Two massive mercenaries grabbed Marcus and violently forced him to his knees on the broken tile floor.

Daniel slowly walked up to the medical table and stared down at the exhausted, terrified mother of his child.

"I will make this incredibly simple for you, Clara," he whispered, pulling a folded legal document from his jacket.

He demanded that she immediately sign over full custody and her entire inheritance to him.

"If you sign this paper, I will let you walk away from here alive," Daniel lied smoothly.

Clara spat directly into his handsome, arrogant face with every ounce of hatred she possessed.

She fiercely declared that she would gladly die before letting a complete monster raise her innocent son.

Daniel calmly wiped his cheek and sighed in deep, theatrical disappointment.

He snapped his fingers, and another mercenary dragged Martha roughly into the center of the room.

The guard pressed the cold barrel of a rifle violently against the frail old woman's head.

"If you do not sign, the maid dies first, then Marcus, and then I will simply take the child from your cold hands," Daniel threatened.

Clara sobbed uncontrollably, realizing she had absolutely no choice if she wanted to save the people she loved.

With a severely trembling hand, she reached for the expensive silver pen Daniel cruelly offered her.

She pressed the ink to the paper, preparing to surrender her entire life and her beloved son's future.

Before she could sign her name, the deafening wail of multiple police sirens echoed loudly outside the clinic.

Daniel smiled wickedly and leaned incredibly close to her ear.

"Do not bother hoping for a miracle, Clara. They work for me," he whispered triumphantly.
