Chapter 7 - The Hostage Gala

The incredibly loud gunshot echoed like massive thunder, silencing the screaming crowd almost instantly.
"Nobody moves a single muscle!" Silas roared loudly, pointing his smoking weapon threateningly at the terrified guests.
His hidden mercenaries quickly drew their concealed weapons and firmly locked the massive wooden doors of the ballroom.
The extravagant engagement party was officially completely transformed into a highly dangerous hostage situation.
Vanessa scrambled desperately backward on the polished floor, looking up at Silas in total, utter confusion.
"Silas, what exactly are you doing?" Vanessa cried out hysterically.
"I am simply taking absolute control of the situation, Vanessa," Silas sneered down at her pathetic form.
He coldly explained that her little financial scheme was taking entirely too long to execute.
His ruthless employers wanted Ethan's signature on the asset transfer immediately, and they were perfectly willing to kill everyone in the room to successfully get it.
Vanessa suddenly realized with absolute, crushing horror that Silas had completely betrayed her too.
Silas aggressively grabbed Vanessa by her styled hair and yanked her violently to her feet, placing his hot gun directly against her temple.
"Sign the corporate papers right now, Ethan, or your incredibly beautiful bride loses her head entirely," Silas demanded.
Ethan stood completely frozen in the center of the lavish room, staring blankly at the terrifying scene unfolding before him.
Naomi expertly used the massive distraction to slip entirely silently behind a towering, decorative ice sculpture.
She rapidly analyzed the complex tactical layout of the room in a mere fraction of a second.
There were precisely four armed men, plus the highly dangerous Silas, actively guarding three hundred panicked civilians.
Naomi finally caught Ethan's eye from across the room and gave him a tiny, almost completely imperceptible nod.
Ethan slowly reached into his expensive tuxedo jacket exactly as if he was reaching for a luxury pen.

Instead, he grabbed a heavy, solid brass candlestick from a nearby table and hurled it directly at the main chandelier switch.
The massive ballroom was abruptly and entirely plunged into complete, suffocating darkness.
