Chapter 10 - The Last Secret

"Vanessa, please put the gun down," Ethan pleaded incredibly softly, holding his empty hands up in surrender.
Vanessa shook her head wildly, dark mascara tears streaming rapidly down her completely ruined face.
"If she actually lives, she will absolutely tell the police about my massive financial crimes," Vanessa sobbed hysterically.
"I will definitely go to federal prison, Ethan, and I absolutely cannot survive in a horrible place like that."
Ethan stepped deliberately and firmly in front of Naomi, shielding her completely with his own broad body.
"If you truly want to shoot her, you have to absolutely shoot me first," Ethan stated with absolute, unwavering certainty.
Vanessa stared intensely at the wealthy man she heavily claimed to love, finally realizing she had completely lost him forever.
Her hands trembled violently as the immense weight of her absolute failures completely crushed her arrogant spirit.
She let out a truly broken, pathetic wail and dropped the heavy weapon entirely onto the cold concrete.
Naomi expertly kicked the gun far away just as the loud sounds of police sirens began wailing heavily outside the estate.
The local authorities quickly swarmed the massive mansion, successfully arresting Silas, his men, and a completely defeated Vanessa.
Hours later, Naomi and Ethan sat quietly together on the front steps of the massive stone house, peacefully watching the sun rise.
"I suppose you will be actively looking for a brand new housekeeper now," Naomi said with a small, genuinely warm smile.
Ethan reached over carefully and gently took her scarred hand firmly in his own.
"I absolutely do not want a housekeeper, Naomi, I just want you," Ethan whispered romantically.
They shared a beautifully quiet, incredibly hopeful kiss in the golden morning light, finally entirely free from the dark shadows of the past.
Exactly six months later, they were living entirely happily in a beautiful coastal home very far away from Boston.
Naomi returned happily from a morning run and found a small, entirely black unmarked package sitting innocently on their front porch.
She carefully opened the strange box to find a single silver bullet and a hastily handwritten note.

The chilling note read: "The man you failed to save in Philadelphia was not a random victim, Naomi; he was Ethan's real father."
Naomi stared at the terrifying paper in absolute horror exactly as a dark, armored SUV slowly pulled into their quiet driveway.
