The first thing I saw inside the nursery was my pregnant wife’s wedding ring lying in the center of an empty crib. The second was a single dried drop of blood on the white wooden rail—and behind me, my mother calmly said, “Grace left you,” as though she were discussing the weather.

I stared at the laboratory results until the black letters began to blur together.

Evelyn was not my biological mother.

The woman who had orchestrated this entire nightmare shared absolutely no blood with me or my newborn son.

I folded the paper carefully and slipped it into my pocket, gripping Vance's gun tighter in my right hand.

I walked through the connecting door and finally entered the sterile, bright delivery suite.

Grace was still lying on the gurney, her wrists and ankles secured tightly by thick leather medical straps.

Standing near the edge of the room was Evelyn, calmly adjusting the delicate blanket around my sleeping son.

She looked up at me, showing absolutely no surprise at the heavy pistol pointed directly at her chest.

"Put the baby down, Evelyn," I ordered, my voice dangerously steady.

She sighed dramatically, as if she were dealing with a deeply disobedient toddler.

"You have always been so terribly emotional, Ethan," she remarked coldly.

"The Caldwell name requires purity, absolute control, and immense sacrifice to survive in this world."

I stepped closer, keeping myself carefully positioned between her and my unconscious wife.

"You are not even a Caldwell by blood, Evelyn," I revealed, stepping directly into her line of sight.

Her calm facade shattered for a fleeting second, her eyes widening in genuine, raw shock.

"I saw the genetic tests," I continued relentlessly.

"You stole me from someone else, just like you are trying to steal my son today."

Evelyn's face hardened into a mask of pure, unadulterated venom.

"I built this entire empire from nothing, and I will not let a weak, pathetic girl ruin my carefully curated dynasty," she hissed.

She reached behind her and pressed a hidden red button mounted beneath the steel counter.

The Mafia Boss Asked a Disabled Widow If She Was Okay

Heavy steel shutters violently slammed down over every door and window in the room, trapping us completely inside.

A loud, hissing sound echoed from the ceiling vents as a thick, white sedative gas began pouring rapidly into the enclosed suite.
