Chapter 9 - The New Order

When Silas finally finished, the atmosphere in the Grand Ballroom had fundamentally changed. The arrogance and entitlement that had poisoned the air earlier were gone. They had been replaced by fear, humility, and the terrifying realization that there was an apex predator in the room, and it wasn't one of them.
Silas stepped away from the podium and walked back down the stairs, standing on the same level as the crowd.
"The Obsidian Conclave was founded on a simple principle," Silas said, his voice quieter now, forcing them to lean in to listen. "Power. But power without purpose is just tyranny. You have all spent your lives trying to build higher walls. Trying to isolate yourselves from the consequences of the world you exploit."
He looked around the room, making eye contact with the broken billionaires.
"From this night forward, this Conclave operates under a new mandate. You want to remain in this room? You want access to the markets I control? You will pivot your empires. You will invest in sustainable infrastructure. You will pay your taxes. You will stop buying politicians, and you will start building a world that doesn't require people to suffer for your profit margins."
Nobody argued. Nobody debated. They just listened.
"If any of you deviate from this mandate," Silas promised softly, "I won't just margin call your debt. I will completely erase you from the financial system. You will wake up with nothing. Just like Marcus."

Silas adjusted the collar of his faded brown coat. The rough fabric felt grounding. He had worn it specifically to remind himself of where he came from, of the dirt and the grind that these people had spent their lives trying to avoid.
"The meeting is adjourned," Silas said. "Enjoy the caviar. I hear it's excellent."
