Chapter 8 - The Purge

Bruno didn't hesitate this time. He marched onto the stage, grabbed Marcus by the collar of his bespoke suit, and dragged the weeping, ruined billionaire away. The heavy doors slammed shut behind them, sealing Marcus’s fate.

Silas turned his gaze back to the crowd. The remaining ninety-nine guests stood frozen, terrified that they were next on the chopping block.

"Marcus Sterling was a symptom of a larger disease," Silas said, leaning against the podium. "A disease that infects this entire room. You have operated without consequence for decades. That ends tonight."

He looked directly at Julian Croft, the tech mogul. Julian shrank back, trying to hide behind a senator.

"Julian Croft," Silas called out.

Julian whimpered, stepping forward reluctantly. "Yes, Mr. Vance?"

"You employ sweatshop labor in Southeast Asia while publicly preaching corporate responsibility," Silas stated, citing a fact that had been buried by expensive PR firms. "You will wire fifty percent of your liquid assets to the workers' union pension fund by midnight. If you refuse, I will release the unredacted supply chain audits to the Department of Justice."

Julian nodded frantically, pulling out his phone with shaking hands. "I'll do it. I'll do it right now."

Silas moved his eyes to a prominent senator in the front row. "Senator Hastings. You accepted three million dollars in dark money from Sterling to deregulate the EPA guidelines in his favor. You will announce your immediate resignation tomorrow morning, citing health reasons. If you don't, the wire transfers will be on the front page of the Times."

The senator turned the color of ash and nodded silently.
