Chapter 5 - The Bleeding Truth
The deafening roar of the explosion knocked the enforcer completely off his feet.
Thick gray smoke poured aggressively into the warehouse, obscuring the blinding spotlight.
Automatic gunfire erupted from the doorway, shredding the wooden crates surrounding Dominic's men.
"Kill her!" Dominic screamed, drawing his own weapon and diving for cover.
The enforcer scrambled up and raised his gun toward Norah.
Before he could pull the trigger, a dark figure emerged from the smoke like a terrifying ghost.
It was Arthur Costello.
He fired two rapid shots, placing a bullet perfectly in the enforcer's chest and another in his head.
The man collapsed, completely dead before he hit the concrete floor.
Arthur grabbed Norah by the arm and hauled her violently out of the metal chair.
"Move!" Arthur roared over the deafening sound of the firefight.
He dragged her through the chaotic crossfire, his men providing heavy covering fire.
They burst out of the warehouse and sprinted toward a waiting armored sedan.
Arthur shoved her into the passenger seat and jumped behind the steering wheel.
He slammed his foot on the gas, tearing away from the warehouse just as Dominic's remaining men rushed out.
Norah gasped for air, the adrenaline making her entire body tremble uncontrollably.
"You saved me," she whispered, looking at him in profound shock.
Arthur did not say a word.
His jaw was clenched tight, and his eyes were burning with a terrifying, cold fury.
He drove recklessly through the city streets until they reached an abandoned, dark alleyway.
He slammed on the brakes, throwing the car into park with aggressive force.
He turned toward Norah, moving with blinding speed.
Arthur drew his heavy pistol and pressed the cold steel barrel directly against her forehead.
Norah froze, the breath completely trapped in her lungs.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't blow your brains out right now," Arthur snarled softly.
