Chapter 4 - The Rival's Trap

Norah stared at the crumpled napkin in absolute terror.

Dominic Rossi knew about her father, and he somehow knew about the hidden ledger.

If Silas found out she was hiding Arthur's stolen property, she would be dead before sunrise.

She had no choice but to meet the rival boss.

At exactly midnight, Norah slipped past the sleeping guards and crept through the freezing rain toward the east gate.

The shadows of the manicured hedges seemed to hide endless threats.

A black van was idling quietly just outside the iron bars.

Norah hesitated, pulling her thin jacket tighter against the biting cold.

The side door of the van slid open silently in the darkness.

"Get in," a gruff voice whispered from inside.

Norah took a step back, realizing this was a massive mistake.

"I want to speak to Dominic right here," she demanded softly.

Two massive men completely dressed in black stepped out of the bushes behind her.

Before she could even scream, a heavy hand clamped violently over her mouth.

They dragged her backward, lifting her off her feet with terrifying ease.

They tossed her roughly into the back of the dark van and slammed the doors shut.

The vehicle sped away into the night, throwing Norah against the cold metal floor.

Her heart hammered against her ribs as she realized she had just been kidnapped by a rival cartel.

The van finally screeched to a halt inside an abandoned warehouse.

They dragged her out and threw her into a metal chair under a blinding spotlight.

Dominic Rossi stepped out of the shadows, lighting a long, expensive cigar.

"You look exactly like your father, Nora," Dominic said with a cruel smile.

"What do you want from me?" Norah demanded, trying to hide the violent shaking of her hands.

"Arthur Costello killed one of my best men last night," Dominic replied smoothly.

"And I know he was severely wounded during the fight."

Dominic leaned in close, blowing smoke directly into her face.

"I want you to tell me exactly how badly Arthur is hurt."

"And then, you are going to hand over the ledger he stole from my dead man."

Norah gritted her teeth, refusing to betray the man who owned her father's debt.

"I don't know what you are talking about."

Dominic sighed in mock disappointment and nodded to one of his brutal enforcers.

The enforcer pulled a heavy steel wrench from his belt and took a step toward her.

Before the man could swing the weapon, the warehouse doors violently exploded inward.
