Chapter 10 - The Monster Behind the Mask

The deafening gunfire in the warehouse finally ceased entirely.
Arthur's backup teams arrived precisely on time, violently clearing the remaining mercenaries.
Silas was completely dead, his treacherous coup entirely dismantled.
Rosa hugged Norah tightly, weeping in sheer relief as Arthur's explosive experts safely defused the bomb.
Arthur walked over to Norah, his usually terrifying face softening with genuine, profound respect.
"You are not a maid anymore, Nora," Arthur promised, gently placing a hand on her shoulder.
"You are officially part of my inner circle."
"No one will ever threaten you or the people you love again."
It felt like a massive, overwhelming victory after days of endless terror.
They returned to the estate as conquerors, having successfully purged the viper from their home.
Arthur invited Norah into his private office, pouring two glasses of incredibly expensive champagne.
"We need to destroy the past to secure our future," Arthur declared smoothly.
He picked up the black leather ledger and tossed it casually into the roaring fireplace.
They watched in silence as the flames consumed the book, erasing all the debts and sins recorded inside.
It was a beautiful, symbolic moment of closure.
But as the leather cover melted away in the intense heat, something small and metallic dropped into the ashes.
Norah noticed it, but she said absolutely nothing.
Later that night, when the estate was completely asleep, Norah crept back into the dark office.
She dug through the cold ashes and retrieved a small, slightly scorched micro-SD card.
She took it back to her room and plugged it into a cheap, battered laptop.
The screen flickered to life, opening a hidden video file.
Norah watched in absolute, paralyzing horror as the video began to play.
It showed her father, Thomas Bennett, kneeling on the floor and begging desperately for his life.
He wasn't begging Silas, and he wasn't begging Dominic Rossi.
He was begging Arthur Costello.
Arthur raised a pistol and shot her father point-blank in the head without a single ounce of hesitation.
Norah clamped a hand over her mouth to muffle a scream of pure, absolute devastation.
The man who had promised to protect her was the very monster who had destroyed her family.
Suddenly, the floorboards creaked softly right behind her chair.

A large, warm hand rested gently on her trembling shoulder.
"I told you to forget I was ever down here, Nora," Arthur whispered coldly into her ear.
