Chapter 7 - The Unlikely Alliance

Mark kept his rifle aimed directly at his bleeding father.

He slowly scanned the corners of the office, expecting an ambush from the shadows.

Arthur coughed up a mixture of blood and laughter, clutching his chest in genuine agony.

He rasped that the trap he set had failed because he underestimated the prisoner.

Mark demanded to know exactly where his wife was right now.

Arthur smiled a weak, pathetic smile and pointed a trembling finger toward the massive metal freezer doors.

He explained that she had managed to break her restraints, steal a gun, and shoot him before fleeing inside.

Mark felt a massive surge of pride and relief knowing the woman he loved was still fighting.

He slowly backed away from the desk, leaving his corrupt father to bleed out on the dirty floor.

He approached the heavy steel freezer doors, noticing a trail of fresh blood leading inside.

He gently pushed the heavy door open, stepping into the freezing, bone-chilling darkness.

Frost covered the walls, and a thick, white mist completely obscured his vision.

He quietly called out her name, promising that he was alone and unarmed.

A figure stepped out from behind a frozen pallet of goods, holding a pistol with shaking hands.

It was his wife, shivering violently in her torn clothes, but incredibly alive.

Mark rushed forward and pulled her into a fierce, desperate embrace.

She sobbed into his shoulder, apologizing for all the secrets and the pain she had caused.

He kissed her forehead and told her that none of it mattered as long as they were together.

She pulled the encrypted flash drive from her shoe, showing him the key to their absolute freedom.

They quickly moved to leave the freezing room before the remaining mercenaries found them.

Just as they reached the heavy steel doors, the electronic lock on the outside loudly engaged.

They were completely sealed inside the industrial freezer with the temperature dropping rapidly.

A voice echoed through the intercom speaker above the door, freezing Mark's blood.

It was David, his former friend, announcing that he had survived the cabin and was eager to collect his bounty.
