Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Betrayal
Principal Hayes smiled warmly, a terrifying contrast to the heavy assault rifle gripped tightly in his hands.
He casually adjusted his expensive tie, stepping carefully over the rubble and broken glass.
David positioned himself between the principal and the lab tables where the children were hiding.
Hayes chuckled darkly, praising David for his impressive bomb disposal skills under such extreme pressure.
David demanded to know why a beloved school administrator was working for a ruthless criminal syndicate.
The principal sighed, explaining that running a private academy for the elite paid well, but not nearly well enough.
He revealed that Julian’s father and Lily’s biological family had both paid him millions to look the other way.
Hayes admitted he had orchestrated the entire lockdown to deliver both children to the highest bidders in the underground market.
The missing teacher gasped in horror, realizing the man she had trusted for years was a monster.
Hayes raised his weapon and aimed it directly at the teacher, ordering her to drag Lily out from under the table.
The teacher shook her head defiantly, stepping bravely to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with David.
The principal's smile vanished completely as he placed his finger heavily on the trigger.
He warned them that he would simply shoot everyone in the room and blame the massacre on a random intruder.
David’s mind raced as he scanned the chemistry lab for any possible advantage.
He noticed a large, pressurized tank of bunsen burner gas sitting near the principal’s feet.
David slowly raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, secretly gripping the heavy multi-tool tightly in his right palm.
He told Hayes that he would cooperate, asking him not to hurt the children.
As the principal lowered his guard for a fraction of a second, David threw the heavy steel tool with lethal precision.
The metal struck the valve of the pressurized gas tank, snapping it completely off the canister.
A deafening hiss filled the room as thick, highly flammable vapor sprayed directly into the principal’s face.

Hayes stumbled backward, blinded and coughing violently.
David reached into his pocket and pulled out a simple silver cigarette lighter.
