Chapter 4 - The Breaching Charge

The metallic click of the explosive charge adhering to the door sent a shockwave of pure adrenaline through David.
He knew exactly how much time they had before the C4 blew the steel door completely off its hinges.
He had less than thirty seconds to find a way to keep the children alive.
David grabbed a heavy wooden desk and flipped it forcefully onto its side.
He ordered all the terrified students to crawl behind the makeshift barricade at the back of the room.
Julian helped usher the crying children into the safest corner, finally acting like a part of the group.
David rushed toward the adjoining wall that separated their classroom from the chemistry lab next door.
He knew from the school blueprints that the wall was made of standard drywall rather than solid concrete.
He picked up a heavy steel fire extinguisher from the corner bracket and swung it with all his might.
The red metal smashed through the drywall, creating a small jagged hole.
David struck the wall three more times, widening the gap just enough for a person to squeeze through.
He screamed for the children to climb through the hole into the adjacent laboratory.
Julian pushed Lily through the opening first, making sure the little girl was safe.
The timer on the breaching charge outside the door began to beep rapidly.
David shoved the last student through the hole and dove into the chemistry lab just as the explosion detonated.
The blast was deafening, tearing the classroom door into twisted shreds of smoking metal.
Dust and debris flooded the air, plunging both rooms into a thick, choking gray fog.
David quickly ushered the kids under the heavy black slate tables in the lab.
He grabbed a broken glass beaker from a counter, holding it like a jagged knife.
Through the hole in the wall, heavy combat boots crunched over the rubble as armed men entered the classroom.
One of the mercenaries raised his rifle and pointed a tactical flashlight directly into the chemistry lab.

The beam of light illuminated a horrifying sight in the center of the room.
The missing teacher was sitting in a chair, bound with thick zip ties and strapped to a massive explosive vest.
