Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

The paramedics loaded Mark safely into the back of the waiting ambulance.

He squeezed Sarah’s hand tightly and promised he would see her at the hospital.

Eleanor was wrapped in a thick wool blanket, sipping hot tea from a kind police officer.

The detective in charge informed Sarah that David had been arrested in the sanctuary.

Arthur’s entire criminal empire was already falling apart as investigators raided his downtown offices.

Sarah hugged her mother tightly, feeling the true weight of the day finally lift off her shoulders.

The terrible conflict was completely resolved, and her mother was finally free.

Mark had proven his undeniable loyalty, putting his own life on the line to save them both.

They were going to start a new life together, far away from this cursed town.

Everything was going to be perfectly fine.

Sarah decided to go back inside the church to grab her mother's favorite coat from the bridal suite.

The hallway was quiet now, lit only by the soft afternoon sun streaming through the windows.

She walked past the open bathroom door and noticed a small shadow standing by the vanity table.

It was little Lily, the flower girl, standing perfectly still in front of the tall, antique mirror.

Sarah smiled softly and stepped into the room to thank the brave little girl who gave her the key.

"Lily, it is time to go home now," Sarah said gently.

The little girl didn't turn around to face her.

Lily just kept staring intently at her own reflection in the glass, whispering softly to thin air.

Slowly, the little girl turned her head toward Sarah and smiled a chilling, unnatural smile.

Her large brown eyes were gone, completely replaced by a terrifying, endless pitch black.

"She says we can start the real game now," the little girl whispered.
