Chapter 8 - The Tarmac Confrontation The torrential rain completely soaked Richard and Maya as they stood completely trapped on the open tarmac.

Colin stepped out of the fake ambulance, completely ignoring the severe weather as he held the deadly remote high in the air.
He shouted over the roaring jet engines, demanding that Richard surrender the little girl immediately or he would stop Ethan's heart right now.
Richard felt a crushing, agonizing despair settle heavily into his chest as he realized he was being forced to make an impossible choice.
He could not possibly hand this brave, innocent girl back to her torturers, but he also could not let his beloved son die.
He desperately tried to negotiate, offering Colin his entire fortune and total control of his vast corporate empire in exchange for the children's lives.
Colin laughed cruelly, stating that he already controlled the empire and that keeping the children alive was simply too great of a massive liability.
The corrupt assistant began counting down from ten, his thumb hovering terrifyingly close to the red button that would execute the children.
Maya looked up at Richard, her serious, dark eyes completely devoid of the fear that a seven-year-old child should possess.
She stepped out from behind the protective bulk of the billionaire's body and walked bravely toward the heavily armed madman.
Richard screamed her name, lunging forward to pull her back, but he slipped violently on the slick, oil-stained asphalt.
Maya held the blinking digital drive in her right hand, raising it high above her head for the assistant to clearly see.
She told Colin that if he pressed his button, she would instantly smash the master drive onto the concrete, triggering a total system failure.
Colin hesitated, his arrogant confidence slightly shaken by the sheer, undeniable courage of the tiny street child standing before him.
He mocked her, claiming she did not have the strength or the genuine willpower to destroy the very device that kept her own heart beating.
Maya did not say another word, but simply turned toward the massive, spinning turbine engine of a nearby commercial jetliner.
She wound her thin arm back and threw the blinking drive with all her might directly into the roaring jet engine.
The expensive device was instantly shredded into a million pieces, completely destroying any chance of controlling the pacemakers remotely.

Colin screamed in absolute fury, furiously pressing the red button on his own backup remote again and again.
Maya turned back to the villain, a brilliant, triumphant smile spreading across her small face as she whispered that his remote was just a useless fake.
