Chapter 5 - Blood Ties

Mr. Moreto gripped the edge of the console tightly.
His knuckles turned completely white.
"Julian," Mr. Moreto whispered in disbelief.
"You died in a plane crash five years ago."
Julian leaned back comfortably in the expensive leather chair.
"I died because you cut the brake lines on my private jet, Victor," he sneered.
"I barely survived the fire."
Julian proudly touched the massive burn scars covering the left side of his face.
Anna listened in shock.
The wealthy family she worked for was built on dark secrets.
"You were stealing from the company," Victor defended himself angrily.
"You were going to ruin everything our father built."
Julian laughed loudly through the speakers.
"So you decided to play God and eliminate me," Julian mocked.
"Now it is my turn to take everything you love."
Julian snapped his fingers at the camera.
Two mercenaries dragged a beaten and bloody man into the frame.
It was the estate's chief engineer.
"The panic room is strong, Victor," Julian admitted.
"But it relies on an external ventilation system."
Julian pulled a heavy wrench from his belt.
He smashed the engineer over the head without mercy.
"Shut off their air supply," Julian ordered his men.
The gentle hum of the air conditioning unit inside the panic room stopped immediately.
A red warning light began flashing on the ceiling.
"You have about twenty minutes of oxygen left in that metal box," Julian warned.
"Enjoy your final moments with your precious heir."
The screen went completely black.
Panic set into the small room.
Ethan began to cry hysterically.
"We are going to suffocate," Ethan sobbed.
Victor frantically pushed buttons on the console.
"There has to be a manual override," he muttered desperately.
He ripped open an electrical panel on the wall.
Sparks flew as he crossed two thick wires together.
Nothing happened.
The air was already starting to feel thick and heavy.
Anna looked around the reinforced room.
Her eyes landed on a heavy steel floor grate in the corner.
She walked over and knelt beside it.
"What are you doing?" Victor asked in frustration.
"There is an old smuggler tunnel under this property," Anna stated calmly.
"It connects to the old drainage system."
Victor stared at her in utter confusion.
"How could you possibly know about a secret tunnel built a hundred years ago?" he demanded.
May you like
Anna looked him dead in the eye.
"Because my grandfather was the one who built it for your family," she revealed coldly.
