Chương 9 - The False Victory
Cassidy slowly bent down and picked up the silver flash drive.
It felt heavy in her palm, containing the answers she had sought for four years.
Victor watched her with a look of begrudging respect.
“Now, the decryption key,” Victor demanded, extending his hand.
Cassidy tapped the screen of the tablet, initiating a ten-second countdown.
“When the timer hits zero, the funds will route directly into your primary Zurich account,” Cassidy explained.
She set the tablet gently on the floor and stepped away from it.
Victor’s men kept their weapons trained on her, but Victor was solely focused on the screen.
The timer hit zero.
Victor’s phone buzzed with a secure notification.
He checked the screen and smiled grimly.
“The money is there,” Victor confirmed to his men.
He looked back at Cassidy, adjusting his suit jacket.
“You are a very talented operative, Cassidy Brooks. It is a pity you wasted your life serving food.”
Victor turned and walked toward the exit, his heavily armed men following him out into the night.
The heavy doors swung shut, leaving the restaurant in eerie, total silence.
Dominic slowly crawled out from behind the shredded table, covered in dust and wine.
He looked at Cassidy, his eyes wide with a mixture of awe and absolute fury.
“You stole my money,” Dominic whispered, his voice shaking.
“I saved your life,” Cassidy corrected him coldly.
She walked away from the ruined dining area, heading straight for the employee locker rooms.
Her heart was pounding with the adrenaline of absolute victory.
She had survived a mob hit, paid off Victor, and finally secured the files about her father.
She reached her locker, pulled out her phone, and opened her banking app.
During the chaotic transfer, she had skimmed two million dollars of Dominic’s money directly into her own account.
She tapped the screen, paying off her father’s medical debt in one single, glorious transaction.
She was finally free.
She let out a massive sigh of relief and plugged the silver flash drive into her phone to read the files.

The encrypted documents loaded onto her screen, displaying a photograph of the man who had ordered her father's assassination.
Cassidy dropped her phone onto the floor in sheer horror.
