Chapter 7 - The Coworker's Confession

A heavy, suffocating black cloth bag was yanked aggressively off Emily's head.
She blinked rapidly against the harsh, swinging overhead lights of a damp, abandoned industrial warehouse.
Leo Moretti was standing directly in front of her, casually spinning a silver revolver in his right hand.
He did not look like the calm, calculating, sophisticated man who had visited her apartment the night before.
He looked deeply paranoid, highly volatile, and dangerously ready to kill someone.
Leo aggressively demanded to know exactly what Vincent had said to her after discovering the listening device.
Emily lied flawlessly to save her life, claiming Vincent thought the bug was planted by a rival gang.
She insisted that Vincent trusted her completely and had hired her on the spot without any suspicion.
Leo studied her face intently, the heavy, oppressive silence stretching for an agonizing, terrifying minute.
He finally smiled broadly, clapping her hard on the shoulder and praising her truly excellent acting skills.
But Leo stated that he still needed to definitively test her loyalty before proceeding with the final stage of his coup.
He gestured vaguely to a dark, shadowy corner of the massive warehouse.
Two of his armed men dragged a bruised, weeping, terrified woman into the center of the room.
It was Dana, the young, naive waitress from the diner.
Emily gasped loudly, demanding to know why Leo had kidnapped a completely innocent girl.
Leo laughed mockingly, revealing that Dana was actually not innocent in the slightest.
Dana had been secretly feeding valuable information to Vincent’s enforcers for over a year.
She was the exact informant who had originally tipped Vincent off about the broken coffee cup incident.
Leo forcefully pressed the heavy silver revolver directly into Emily’s trembling hands.

He told her she needed to prove she was truly on his side by pulling the trigger and eliminating the rat.
Emily stared at the weeping girl on her knees, her hands shaking violently around the freezing cold metal of the gun.
