Chapter 6 - The Setup

The discovery changed Elias. He didn't just play the role of the obedient Hound anymore; he weaponized it. Over the next three weeks, he began to lay the groundwork for his revenge. He skimmed off the top of his cash deliveries, funneling the money into untraceable offshore crypto wallets. He memorized patrol routes, security blind spots, and the schedules of Genevieve’s most elite guards.
But Genevieve was apex predator for a reason. She smelled the shift in the wind.
She summoned Elias to the basement sorting floor. Silas was already there, kneeling on the cold concrete. Two enforcers stood behind him, guns drawn. Silas’s face was badly beaten, one eye swollen shut.
Elias froze, his heart hammering against his ribs.
"Elias, my favorite Hound," Genevieve purred, pacing slowly around Silas. "We have a problem. It seems someone has been accessing my private files. Someone has been copying the Black Ledger."
She stopped in front of Silas, grabbing his hair and yanking his head back. "Silas claims he was working alone. Trying to sell me out to the Russian mob. But I know Silas. He lacks ambition."
Genevieve locked her terrifying icy eyes on Elias. She handed him a silver-plated revolver.
"Execute him," she commanded. "Prove your loyalty. Or I send my men up to the penthouse right now to introduce your sister to the real world."
Elias took the heavy gun. His hand shook. Silas looked up at him, blood dripping from his chin. Silas gave a barely perceptible nod. Do it. Survive.
Elias raised the gun, aiming at Silas’s chest. He closed his eyes.
Bang.
Silas slumped to the floor. The enforcers dragged the body away. Genevieve smiled, clapping her hands softly. "Good boy. You belong to me, Elias. Never forget that."

As she walked away, Elias lowered the gun, staring at the pool of blood on the concrete. What Genevieve didn't know was that Elias and Silas had planned for this. The gun was loaded with a specialized sub-sonic blank. Silas was wearing a hidden Kevlar plate and a blood squib. It was a theatrical performance to buy Elias time.
But the clock was officially ticking. The endgame had begun.
