Chapter 6 - The Hostage Situation

Panic erupted in the sanctuary as guests screamed and ducked under the wooden pews.
Richard stood completely still, his hands raised in surrender.
Vanessa walked down the aisle, her pristine dress now slightly wrinkled and her eye bruising.
She picked up the fake priest’s dropped Bible and pulled a legal document from its pages.
"Sign the transfer of your company, Richard," Vanessa ordered coldly.
"Sign it, and I might let your precious daughter live."
Richard stared at the woman he was about to marry, utter betrayal breaking his heart.
"You planned this all along," he whispered, his voice cracking.
"Of course I did," she laughed maliciously.
"Your company is the perfect front to launder our cartel's money."
Eli desperately looked around for a way out, but armed men blocked every exit.
She still clutched the manila envelope in her sweating hands.
"Dad, don't do it!" Eli yelled out.
One of the fake groomsmen struck Eli across the face, sending her crashing to the floor.
Richard lunged forward, but the priest pressed the gun harder into his ribs.
"Give me the pen," Richard defeatedly muttered, a single tear falling down his cheek.
Vanessa handed him an expensive fountain pen with a victorious smirk.
As Richard placed the pen onto the paper, a deafening crash echoed from above.
