Chapter 3 - The Hidden Camera

Vincent locked the heavy oak doors of his office from the inside.
He stared at Charmian, who was trembling in the corner of the room.
"We have a mole inside the estate."
Vincent spoke the words with deadly calm.
Charmian wrapped her arms around herself.
"Are they coming to kill me?"
"They will have to burn this house to the ground first."
Vincent walked over to his bookshelf and triggered a hidden keypad.
A secret panel slid open to reveal a secure surveillance room.
He motioned for Charmian to follow him inside.
Dozens of high-definition monitors displayed every angle of the compound.
"Whoever texted that enforcer has to be on the second floor."
Vincent began rewinding the interior security footage.
He tracked the movements of every guard and staff member from the past hour.
Charmian stepped closer to the glowing screens.
"Mr. Costa."
She pointed a bandaged finger at one of the camera feeds.
"Look at the kitchen hallway."
Vincent zoomed in on the designated screen.
Mrs. Gable, the elderly housekeeper, was walking hurriedly down the corridor.
She paused nervously to look over her shoulder.
Then she pulled a burner phone from her apron and typed a quick message.
Vincent felt a rare surge of pure shock.
Mrs. Gable had worked for the Costa family for twenty years.
She had practically raised him after his own mother died.
"Why would she do this?"
Charmian asked quietly.
Vincent did not answer her.
He pulled a loaded magazine from his desk drawer and slammed it into his weapon.
"Stay exactly where you are."
Vincent walked out of the surveillance room and headed straight for the staff quarters.
He kicked the door to Mrs. Gable's private room completely off its hinges.
The room was entirely empty.

A large, sophisticated explosive device was strapped to the support pillar in the center of her room.
The digital timer was currently reading ten seconds.
