Chapter 6 - The Hospital Threat

"Stop right there!" Thea screamed, bursting into the hospital room and shoving the nurse away from the bed.

The syringe clattered loudly onto the linoleum floor, spilling the cloudy liquid everywhere.

Lachlan stepped quickly into the room and locked the door behind them, his blind facade completely dropping.

The young nurse backed into a corner, her eyes wide with sheer terror.

"My father told me to do it!" the girl sobbed, raising her hands defensively.

"What is in that syringe?" Lachlan demanded, his voice echoing with lethal authority.

"It is a heavy sedative," the nurse confessed, tears streaming down her face.

"I wasn't trying to kill her, they just wanted to put her in a coma to keep you under their control."

Thea felt physically sick, wrapping her arms protectively around her unconscious mother.

"Who ordered this?" Lachlan asked, stepping closer to the terrified girl.

"It wasn't Julian or Astrid," the nurse cried.

"It was the entire board of directors, they are all working together to strip you of the company."

The conspiracy was vastly deeper and far more dangerous than Lachlan had ever anticipated.

Before they could interrogate the girl further, a loud knock echoed on the hospital door.

Lachlan immediately pulled out his folding cane and put his dark glasses back on.

Thea opened the door to find Dr. Harrison, Lachlan's primary neurologist.

"Mr. Voss, I have incredibly exciting news regarding your latest MRI scans," the doctor announced loudly in the hallway.

"Your optic nerve is regenerating at a miraculous rate, and there is a high probability your vision will fully return."

Lachlan's stomach completely dropped.

By broadcasting this medical miracle in a public hallway, the doctor had just painted a massive target on Lachlan's back.
