Chapter 6 - The Target
Thomas was sweating heavily, his eyes darting frantically around the hallway.
"Don't scream, Sadie, or I'll blow your head off right now," he whispered furiously.
Sadie raised her hands, her heart hammering wildly against her fractured ribs.
"Thomas, what are you doing?" she pleaded softly.
"I work for the Volkovs, and Hayes humiliated me in front of my crew," Thomas sneered.
He grabbed her arm, intending to use her as a human shield to get to Ronan's study.
Before he could pull her into the elevator, a sharp cracking sound echoed through the penthouse.
Thomas’s eyes rolled back into his head, and a red hole appeared in the center of his forehead.
He collapsed forward, dropping the gun onto the marble floor.
Sadie screamed and covered her ears, dropping to her knees.
Ronan walked calmly out of his study, holding a smoking handgun.
He did not look at the dead body bleeding onto his expensive floor.
He looked only at Sadie, his expression completely unreadable.
He pulled out his phone and ordered a cleanup crew to the penthouse immediately.
"By taking you out of that restaurant, I made a public statement," Ronan told her, lowering his weapon.
"The Volkov family knows I showed weakness by saving a waitress, and they sent a rat to test my defenses."
Sadie stared at him, trembling with a mixture of terror and absolute fury.
"I didn't ask for any of this!" she screamed, finally finding her voice.
"I just wanted to be invisible and escape my own hell, but you dragged me into a worse one."
Ronan walked toward her, his dark eyes locking onto hers with intense gravity.
"You were never invisible, Sadie," he said quietly.
"I have been watching you suffer in that apartment for six months, waiting for the exact right moment to intervene."
May you like
Sadie stopped breathing, the chilling weight of his words crashing down upon her.
He had known about the beatings, the bruises, and the fear for half a year, and he had done nothing until last night.
