Chapter 4 - The Miami Deception

I stared at the glowing screen, completely paralyzed by the sheer audacity of my husband’s betrayal.
He was openly celebrating an engagement to another woman while I was still bleeding from giving birth to his child.
The caption on the video read that he was finally with his true soulmate after years of feeling trapped.
The blonde woman kissed his cheek and thanked him for the beautiful new house they were going to share in Colorado.
The tears that had been threatening to fall all night completely dried up in an instant.
My overwhelming sadness evaporated, immediately replaced by a cold, calculating, and ruthless fury.
Grant had been planning to steal my wealth and replace me for months.
“I am going to utterly destroy him,” I whispered, looking down at my sleeping daughter.
Rachel packed up her briefcase and looked at me with newfound respect.
“Marcus Sterling is ruthless, but he respects bold moves,” Rachel said.
She explained that if I handed Marcus the original physical deed tomorrow morning, his lawyers would bulldoze the forged transfer.
The only remaining problem was retrieving the document from a house currently occupied by a hostile intruder.
“I am going back to the mansion tonight,” I announced, standing up despite the sharp pain in my abdomen.
“You absolutely cannot do that, Lena, you just had major surgery,” Nora argued frantically.
“I will not let that arrogant parasite steal my child’s inheritance,” I shot back firmly.
Nora looked at my determined face and slowly reached into her deep coat pocket.
She pulled out a heavy, antique brass key attached to a faded leather strap.
“Grant changed all the digital codes, but he doesn't know about the physical deadbolt on the old servant's entrance,” Nora revealed.
I had given her that key five years ago during a massive renovation project, and we had both completely forgotten about it.
It was the only secure way into the house that bypassed the modern alarm system.
“I will watch the baby, but you are not going in there alone,” Rachel volunteered, pulling off her expensive blazer.
“I am coming with you to watch your back,” Nora said, grabbing a heavy metal flashlight from the kitchen counter.
We left Rachel safely with Ava and drove back into the howling, relentless storm.
The mansion was completely dark when we arrived, except for a single dim light in the kitchen.

We crept silently through the muddy rose bushes toward the hidden servant's door at the back of the property.
Nora slid the brass key into the rusted lock and turned it with a terrifyingly loud click.
