Chapter 10 - The Final Signature

Before the sharp blade could even reach me, Marcus Sterling’s private security guards reacted with lightning speed.
Two massive men tackled Grant violently in mid-air, slamming his body incredibly hard against the polished hardwood floor.
The silver letter opener skittered harmlessly away as the guards pinned his arms forcefully behind his back.
“Call the police and have this pathetic piece of trash arrested for attempted murder and massive real estate fraud,” Marcus ordered calmly.
Grant screamed and thrashed wildly, hurling vicious insults at me as they dragged him forcefully out of the glass boardroom.
I did not flinch, completely ignoring his pathetic tantrums as I finally picked up the heavy gold pen.
I signed my name confidently across the dotted line of the final, binding real estate contract.
Marcus tapped a button on his laptop, and Rachel’s phone immediately pinged with a banking confirmation.
Fifteen million dollars in clean, untraceable cash had just successfully cleared into my secure offshore trust account.
The nightmare was officially over, and the house that held so many terrible memories was no longer my problem.
A week later, Grant and his horrific sister were both denied bail and sitting in a cold county jail awaiting federal trial.
The corrupt police officer was fired and under heavy federal investigation, completely neutralizing any threat to my custody.
Nora, Ava, and I moved into a beautiful, highly secure penthouse overlooking the peaceful mountains.
I finally had the quiet, incredibly happy, and perfectly safe life I had desperately wanted for my sweet daughter.
I poured myself a cup of hot tea and sat peacefully on the balcony, watching Ava sleep in her new crib.
The doorbell rang softly, and Nora brought me a small, unmarked brown package that had just arrived in the mail.
I cut the tape and pulled out a heavy, rusted safety deposit box key wrapped in a handwritten note from Grant’s mother in Miami.

“My son was incredibly stupid to try and rob you, Lena, but he was only following the orders of the real mastermind,” the letter read.
“The key unlocks the truth about Ava’s actual biological father, and he is coming to collect what belongs to him.”
