Chapter 7 - The Unraveling

Julian didn't wait for the sun to rise. He drove straight to his architectural firm in downtown Charlotte, using his master keycard to bypass security.
He accessed Chloe’s desktop computer. He had trusted her completely, never bothering to monitor her personal files. It took him an hour to bypass her basic password protection, but what he found made him physically sick.
Chloe hadn't just tipped Madeline off; she had been blackmailing the Sterling family for the last three years.
There were copies of the dashcam footage saved on a hidden partition of the hard drive. Chloe had hated Clara because Chloe had been secretly in love with Julian since their freshman year. When Julian proposed to Clara, Chloe’s jealousy turned lethal. She had manipulated Madeline, stoking the fires of Madeline’s academic rivalry with Clara until it became a murderous rage.
And now, Chloe was trying to play Julian and the Sterlings against each other to steal the trust fund money for herself.
Julian printed the evidence, his hands shaking with rage. He had spent two years sleeping next to the enemy, entirely oblivious that the architect of Clara’s death was making his coffee every morning.

He picked up his phone and dialed the police. It was time to stop playing games.
“Detective Miller,” Julian said when the line connected. “My name is Julian Vance. I have the evidence for the Clara Vance hit-and-run case. All of it.”
