Chapter 10 - The Resolution

Flashing red and blue lights suddenly flooded the entire airfield.

Six police cruisers surrounded the jet, their sirens cutting through the winter air.

Officers swarmed the stairs with their weapons drawn, shouting commands.

Marcus was pinned to the icy ground and handcuffed while he bled.

My mother tried to run back inside the plane, but two female officers dragged her out.

She screamed hysterically, threatening to sue the entire police department.

An officer gently took the pink bundle from my mother's arms.

He walked down the stairs and placed Lily safely into my trembling hands.

I fell to my knees in the snow, sobbing uncontrollably as I kissed her warm cheeks.

The nightmare was finally over.

The police had received anonymous tips from the hospital staff and arrived just in time.

Marcus was charged with armed kidnapping, assault, and attempted murder.

My mother was arrested as an accomplice and charged with grand larceny for trying to extort the trust fund.

The corrupt judge who signed the fake custody order was investigated and removed from the bench.

Six months later, Lily and I were living a completely different life.

The lawyers had successfully secured Lily's rightful inheritance from her grandfather's trust.

We lived in a beautiful, heavily secured estate by the ocean.

We had peace, safety, and a future that nobody could ever take away from us again.

I put Lily down in her new nursery, watching her sleep peacefully.

I walked downstairs to the kitchen to check the afternoon mail on the counter.

At the bottom of the stack was a thick, black envelope with no return address or stamp.

I tore it open, pulling out a polaroid photograph of Lily sleeping in her crib from last night.

Pinned to the photo was a handwritten note that made my blood freeze.

"Did you really think Marcus was the only one looking for her?"
