Chapter 6 - The Burner Phone

The highly toxic yellow gas poured rapidly into the enclosed basement, violently burning my eyes and lungs.

I fiercely covered my mouth and nose with the thick fabric of my sweater, desperately scanning the darkness for a way out.

The small, rectangular window located near the ceiling was my absolutely only viable option for survival.

I rapidly grabbed a heavy metal wrench from my father's workbench and climbed aggressively onto a stack of wooden crates.

I forcefully swung the heavy tool with all my remaining strength, shattering the thick glass pane entirely into a hundred jagged pieces.

Freezing winter air rushed eagerly through the narrow opening, violently pushing the toxic gas back down toward the floor.

I painfully pulled myself through the tiny window, scraping my ribs deeply against the incredibly sharp edges of the broken glass.

I collapsed heavily onto the frozen grass of the backyard, gasping deeply for clean, breathable air.

I truly did not have time to recover because the person who locked me inside was definitely still somewhere nearby.

I scrambled desperately to my feet and ran blindly through the neighboring yards until I finally reached a commercial gas station.

I securely huddled behind a large ice machine, shivering uncontrollably as I tried eagerly to form a logical plan.

My vital phone had been completely destroyed when I dropped it forcefully on the concrete basement floor.

I desperately needed to urgently contact Sarah, the private home-care nurse who personally treated my sister twice a week.

Sarah absolutely knew everything about my sister's incredibly complex medical history and highly lucrative financial accounts.

I rapidly used the dirty payphone outside the gas station, praying vigorously she would answer her emergency line at this terrible hour.

She thankfully picked up on the second ring, her voice exceptionally thick with severe exhaustion and worry.

I rapidly explained the horrifying situation, begging her frantically to meet me at the old diner on the absolute edge of town.

Exactly thirty minutes later, Sarah cautiously pulled her battered sedan into the completely empty diner parking lot.

I swiftly climbed into the passenger seat, immediately noticing how incredibly nervous and terrified she looked.

Sarah handed me a steaming cup of black coffee, her pale hands shaking violently against the steering wheel.

I surprisingly found something hidden deeply inside your sister's winter coat when I visited her at the hospital tonight, Sarah whispered.

She reached deep into her large purse and shockingly pulled out a incredibly cheap, prepaid burner phone.

Your sister begged me frantically to give this exact device exclusively to you before the police properly found it.

I eagerly grabbed the cheap plastic phone and instantly opened the entirely unread text messages on the bright screen.

The specific messages clearly showed my father aggressively threatening to disconnect my sister's life support if she did not sign the trust over.

This flawlessly proves he was violently extorting her, I said excitedly, feeling a massive surge of pure, unadulterated hope.

Sarah shook her head incredibly slowly, fresh tears suddenly spilling heavily over her dark eyelashes.

You desperately need to read the specific replies your sister actually sent back to him, Sarah instructed quietly.

I slowly scrolled down the brightly lit screen and read the truly horrifying responses my sister had deliberately typed.

May you like

The replies clearly showed my sister aggressively agreeing to fake the abuse perfectly in exchange for a fifty percent cut of the stolen money.

My chronically ill sister was not a helpless victim at all; she was the brilliant mastermind of the entire vicious extortion plot.
