Chapter 10 - The Just Reward

Noah froze completely as the blatantly corrupt federal agents surrounded them with raised weapons. He realized with pure dread that Gary's evil reach extended far beyond just the local cartel thugs. Before the corrupt lead agent could pull the trigger, a thunderous crack echoed through the empty yard. The agent's weapon shattered violently into a dozen pieces, struck accurately by a high-caliber sniper round. Dozens of unmarked black SUVs aggressively smashed through the rusted industrial park gates. Men wearing authentic FBI windbreakers poured out, instantly disarming and arresting the rogue cartel agents. A stern woman in a sharply tailored suit walked calmly over and kneeled safely beside Elias. "You certainly took your sweet time, Director," Elias smirked weakly, coughing up a small amount of blood. "We had to perfectly trace Gary's underground network before we moved in," the Director replied, signaling for medics. Paramedics rushed forward quickly, lifting Elias onto a medical stretcher and applying pressure to his severe wound. The violent conflict was finally over, and the corrupt cartel's dangerous hold on the city was completely shattered. Six months later, Noah stood proudly in the grand lobby of a massive, gleaming corporate building. Elias had fully recovered and successfully used his vast, legitimate fortune to open a global charitable foundation. He happily named Noah as the executive director, giving him a multi-million dollar salary and a completely new life. Noah had a beautiful luxury penthouse, a completely safe future, and the satisfaction of changing the world for the better. His single, simple act of late-night compassion had rewarded him far beyond his wildest dreams. He walked confidently into his luxurious new office and sat down comfortably behind the mahogany desk. Noah opened his new executive desk drawer to simply put away his expensive fountain pen. He suddenly noticed a small, unmarked black envelope tucked suspiciously beneath his fresh legal pads. Inside the envelope was a recent photograph of his supposedly deceased father standing right next to Elias. A handwritten note attached to the photo simply read that his father was alive, but rapidly running out of time.
