Chapter 8 - The Ambush

The deafening blast knocked Sadi to the hard concrete floor.
The fluorescent lights overhead flickered wildly before shattering, plunging the bunker into near darkness.
Dante ignored his severe injuries and threw himself off the medical table.
He landed on top of Sadi, shielding her body from the falling concrete debris.
"Stay down!" Dante roared over the ringing in her ears.
Three heavily armed men wearing tactical gear stepped through the ruined doorway.
They raised their assault rifles and began sweeping the smoky room with bright red laser sights.
Dante pulled a backup pistol from his waistband and fired two rapid shots from the floor.
The first attacker dropped instantly, a bullet lodged perfectly in his throat.
The remaining two men returned fire blindly, shattering the medical cabinets and glass vials around them.
Dante grunted as a bullet grazed his left shoulder.
His pistol clicked completely empty.
He was out of ammunition.
The second attacker stepped forward, aiming his rifle directly at Dante's head.
Sadi noticed a heavy surgical bone saw resting on a tray just inches from her hand.
She did not hesitate to save the man who had just used his own body to protect her.
She grabbed the heavy metal instrument and hurled it with blinding speed.
The heavy saw struck the attacker squarely in the temple with a sickening crunch.
The man collapsed backward, dropping his rifle onto the floor.
The third and final attacker panicked and swung his weapon toward Sadi.
Before he could pull the trigger, Dante lunged forward like a wounded animal.
He tackled the man to the ground and snapped his neck with a brutal, violent twist.
The bunker fell completely silent, filled only with the smell of gunpowder and blood.
Sadi crawled out from under the ruined medical table, shaking uncontrollably from the sheer adrenaline.
She looked down at the attacker she had struck with the bone saw.
The man was miraculously still breathing, coughing up blood onto his tactical vest.
He looked up at Sadi and offered a gruesome, bloody smile.

"We did not come here to kill Russo," the dying man wheezed weakly.
"We came here to take you."
