Chapter 8 - The Hostage of Greed

The violent explosion violently rattled the expensive crystal chandeliers hanging above them.
Tomas’s men were desperately trying to blow their way through the heavy steel barricades.
Intense gunfire echoed continuously from the hallway as Ronan’s remaining loyal guards fought back fiercely.
Inside the dim library, the deadly standoff was tense and utterly silent.
Tomas hid like a coward behind a heavy leather sofa, blind-firing wildly toward the desk.
Adriana crawled pathetically across the floor, desperate to reach the locked door.
"Do not leave me behind, Tomas!" she screamed in absolute panic.
Tomas glared at her with pure, unfiltered disgust.
"You were only useful to me for the vault codes, you stupid woman," he spat venomously.
He coldly raised his gun and fired a single shot directly at her.
The bullet struck Adriana in the shoulder, sending her collapsing into a bloody heap on the rug.
She screamed in terrible agony, finally realizing she had been nothing but a disposable pawn.
Ronan peaked carefully around the desk, returning precise fire and pinning Tomas down.
Mave knew in her heart that Mr. Castellano was quickly running out of bullets.
She suddenly remembered the mansion's main breaker box was located right inside her hidden tunnel.
If she cut the power, Ronan would have the ultimate tactical advantage in the dark.
She crawled blindly through the narrow, dusty chute until she reached the utility panel.
Her trembling fingers finally found the heavy, cold electrical switch.
She pulled it down firmly with all her remaining strength.
The entire mansion was instantly plunged into absolute, pitch-black darkness.
Mave sighed in relief, but her brief moment of victory was cut violently short.
A pair of incredibly strong hands grabbed her roughly by the hair from the dark opening behind her.

Tomas had managed to find the secret door during the confusion.
He dragged her out into the library and pressed the hot barrel of his gun firmly against her temple.
