Chapter 6 - The Dead Man's Hand
The grand library was completely silent except for Ronan's ragged, struggling breathing.
Within a few agonizing seconds, even that terrible sound stopped entirely.
Adriana walked over casually and kicked his heavy leather boot to ensure he was not faking it.
He did not move a single muscle in response.
The heavy oak door swung open quickly, and Tomas stepped confidently into the room.
"Is the deed finally done?" Tomas asked, staring down at the lifeless body on the floor.
Adriana smiled radiantly and threw her arms tightly around his neck.
"We are finally free to take everything," she whispered, kissing him passionately.
Tomas walked over to the desk and picked up the ringing telephone with a smug grin.
"The boss just suffered a massive heart attack," Tomas lied smoothly to the guards outside.
"Send my personal crew inside immediately to secure the perimeter."
Mave trembled violently behind the wall, realizing Tomas was staging a complete, hostile takeover.
He was actively replacing Ronan's loyal men with his own heavily armed mercenaries.
"Where are the offshore bank account codes?" Tomas demanded, turning back to Adriana.
"They are in the wall safe," she replied eagerly, walking toward a large painting.
She pulled the painting aside and quickly entered the six-digit code to unlock the steel door.
The heavy metal door popped open, but the safe was completely empty inside.
Adriana gasped loudly, her hands frantically searching the bare velvet shelves in panic.
"Where is the master ledger?" Tomas yelled, pulling his gun out in a sudden rage.
"Looking for this?" a deep, incredibly familiar voice asked from across the room.
Tomas and Adriana spun around in absolute, paralyzing horror.
Ronan Castellano was sitting comfortably upright in his large leather chair.

He was holding the missing ledger in one hand and a loaded pistol directly aimed at them in the other.
"You really should have used a much stronger poison, brother," Ronan smiled coldly.
