Chapter 7 - The Empire's Wrath

Tomas staggered backward, his arrogant face instantly drained of all its color.

"How in the hell are you alive?" he stammered, raising his weapon with a shaking hand.

Ronan stood up slowly, calmly wiping a layer of fake, chemical sweat from his brow.

"I built this entire empire surrounded by treacherous snakes, Tomas."

"Did you honestly think I would drink anything my cheating wife handed me?"

Mave watched in awe as Ronan explained how he had swapped the expensive bottle earlier that evening.

He had merely swallowed a mild, temporary paralytic to flawlessly fake his own death.

Adriana fell to her knees, sobbing violently as her grand illusion crumbled around her.

"Please, Ronan, he forced me to do it!" she cried desperately, pointing an accusing finger at Tomas.

Tomas scoffed loudly, keeping his gun aimed squarely at Ronan's broad chest.

"Save your pathetic tears, Adriana," Tomas growled with utter disgust.

"My heavily armed men have already surrounded this entire estate."

Tomas pulled a heavy walkie-talkie from his belt and held it up like a trophy.

"Breach the doors and kill everyone inside," Tomas ordered his men ruthlessly.

He dropped the radio to the floor and smiled evilly at his former boss.

"You might be alive, but you are completely outnumbered and outgunned."

Ronan did not flinch, nor did he show a single ounce of fear in his eyes.

Instead, he looked directly at the wooden bookshelf where Mave was secretly hiding.

"Mave, trigger the lockdown," he commanded loudly and firmly.

Mave reached up and pulled the heavy iron lever hidden inside the wall passage with all her might.

A deafening security alarm instantly blared through the massive mansion.

Thick steel plates slammed down violently over every single window and door.

The beautiful house was instantly turned into a dark, impenetrable fortress.

Tomas fired a panicked shot at Ronan, but Ronan easily dove safely behind the massive mahogany desk.

Suddenly, a massive explosion rocked the front gates of the estate, signaling that the real war had begun.
