Chapter 6 - The Shattered Glass

I screamed and pulled Ethan down to the floor as a second bullet shattered the remaining glass.

Tiny shards rained down on our heads, cutting into my arms and back.

I looked up at the broken window and saw Mayor Sterling standing in the hallway.

He was holding a silver revolver, his hands shaking violently with desperate rage.

He pointed the gun through the jagged opening, aiming directly at Ethan’s head.

He ordered us to step away from the computer console and kick the flash drive toward the door.

The Mayor’s perfectly groomed facade had completely crumbled into madness.

He screamed that his son was not going to prison because of a careless mistake with a stupid girl.

Ethan did not cower or beg for his life.

He stared bravely at the Mayor and reached his hand up toward the computer keyboard.

The Mayor cocked the hammer of the revolver, threatening to shoot if Ethan moved another inch.

I knew the Mayor had nothing left to lose and would absolutely pull the trigger.

I grabbed a heavy microphone stand from the floor and swung it upward with all my might.

The heavy metal base smashed directly into the Mayor’s wrist.

The gun fired wildly into the ceiling as the Mayor cried out in agonizing pain.

He dropped the weapon, clutching his shattered wrist in the hallway.

Ethan immediately slammed his palm down on the enter key.

The flash drive executed its program, overriding the school's locked audiovisual system.

A massive video feed illuminated the giant projector screen in the main auditorium.

The audio crackled to life, echoing loudly through the massive speakers.

It was a dashboard camera recording from the Mayor's own personal vehicle.

The video clearly showed Liam Sterling driving recklessly on the night of the winter formal.

It showed Maya running down the dark road, wearing the bright red dress.

And it showed the horrific moment the car accelerated intentionally, striking her down.

The auditorium erupted into screams of horror and absolute outrage.

The truth was finally out, undeniable and broadcast for the entire town to see.

But our victory was violently cut short.

The broadcast booth door was suddenly kicked off its hinges.

Liam Sterling stood in the doorway, holding a heavy emergency fire axe he had ripped from the wall.
