Chapter 3 - The Corporate Ambush

I hung up the phone and walked to my bedroom closet to select a tailored navy blue suit.
If Kenneth wanted a war, I was going to dress properly for the battlefield.
Abernathy sent a black town car to pick me up and drive me to the corporate headquarters my late husband had built from nothing.
When I arrived at the glass boardroom, the entire board of directors was already seated.
Kenneth burst through the double doors a few minutes later, his face red and sweating.
He had brought my other son, Mason, and my sister, Gertrude, for backup.
"What is the meaning of this?" Kenneth demanded, slamming his hands on the mahogany table.
"You have no right to be in this building, Mom!"
I remained seated at the head of the table, folding my hands neatly in my lap.
"Actually, Kenneth, she has every right," Abernathy said, stepping out from the corner of the room.
Mason sneered and pointed a finger at the lawyer.
"My brother is the CEO, and he owns this company!" Mason shouted.
"We are having security remove both of you right now."
Abernathy simply opened his briefcase and passed a stack of documents around the table to the board members.
"Under the secret morality clause of the founding trust, Kenneth Gable is hereby terminated as CEO, effective immediately."
Kenneth’s jaw dropped as the board members reviewed the legally binding signatures.
"You can't do this to me!" Kenneth cried, looking at the silent board members for help.
"I built this company's profits for the last three years!"
I stood up and looked my ungrateful son dead in the eyes.
"No, Kenneth, you embezzled this company's profits for the last three years to fund Brenda's lavish lifestyle."
I pushed a forensic accounting report across the table, highlighting millions of dollars in stolen funds.
"And unless you leave this building quietly, my next phone call is to the FBI."
May you like
Mason stepped forward with a wicked grin, pulling a folded document from his jacket pocket.
"Go ahead and call them, Mom, because Kenneth isn't the only one who has been busy."
